Gordon State College name approved by regents

Atlanta — August 8, 2012

The Board of Regents approved today the change of the name of Gordon College to Gordon State College. The action follows the Board鈥檚 approval in 2006 of a change in status for the two-year college in Barnesville to allow it to offer limited baccalaureate programs within the University System鈥檚 state college sector. The name change is effective immediately.

鈥淭his request was made to the Board by Gordon President Max Burns,鈥 said Dr. Houston Davis, the 嗨碰视频鈥檚 executive vice chancellor and chief academic officer. 鈥淚t reflects the reality of the College鈥檚 hard work to develop and put in place select bachelor鈥檚 degree programs that serve the region鈥檚 workforce needs and the name change is both well-deserved and appropriate.鈥

As a state college, Gordon developed a new mission that was previously approved by the Board. While offering seven baccalaureate degree programs, the College retains its two-year college access mission. Currently, students can earn bachelor鈥檚 degrees in early childhood education, English, biology, history and mathematics, all which can lead to a teaching certificate, as well as bachelor’s degrees in nursing and health informatics.
